By KTM Metro Reporter

December 17, 2010: Out of 19 passengers killed in the plane crash on December 11 are 18 Bhutanese and one Tibetan American. After a few minutes of the take off from the Lamidana airport in eastern Nepal, the plane crashed on the hill killing all people on board. The possible cause of the crash is attributed to the over load.

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has set up a five-member team to investigate the cause of the accident. Former Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Medini Prasad Sharma will lead the team to investigate the cause of the air crash. The team has got 90 days to complete the inquiry into the accident.

This accident is the second within six months. In July, 14 people including the crew members were killed in the plane that returned from Lukla not being able to land there due to the bad weather to Kathmandu but could not land in Kathmandu, too and turned to south causing a crash to the South of the Kathmandu Valley. The International Civil Aviation Organization has complained to the Government of Nepal for the inadequate air safety in Nepal.

All Bhutanese were the pilgrims from Bhutan visiting different religious sites in Nepal. They had purchased the air tickets in the Nepalese names for paying the cheaper rate allocated to Nepalese only.
