For Postponing Poll, And Holding A Round Table Conference

Issue 44, November 3, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 29, 2013: in a statement released in Kathmandu today, chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya demanded that the four major parties and the government postpone the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections and take initiatives for a political outlet through a round table conference, according to the news posted ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

Chairman Vaidhya said that participate or boycott the elections were both the democratic rights, his party along with the 33-party alliance was compelled to boycott the elections as the four parties disregarded their very flexible four-point demands.

“There is no meaning of the election being held keeping the 33-party alliance aside. It will neither be able to write constitution nor conclude the peace process. Instead, it will invite another conflict”, read the statement.

Chairman Vaidhya also appealed to the civil society and intellectual community for taking initiatives for a solution through dialogue.

“The government has banned boycott movement, arrested those involved in poll-boycott, charged them with fake cases and thus taken oppressive measures. We condemn this and demand immediate release of the arrested.”

He also argued that the November 19 polls were being held without a political consensus on them.

Senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba said that there was a way to bring on board the CPN-Maoist to the Constituent Assembly (CA) by amending the interim constitution even after the CA elections, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

He said that his party had taken initiatives until the last moment to convince the dissenting parties including the CPN-Maoist of the need for joining the second CA elections.

He was for taking feedbacks from the dissenting parties while drafting a new constitution. Deuba said that NC was ready to discuss any alternative to bring on board the CPN-Maoist to the CA even after the elections.
