President for Institutionalizing Democracy

Issue 13, March 28, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

March 25, 2010: talking to the reporters in his home district, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has said that he has no authority to impose a presidential rule in Nepal; he also has said that he is for institutionalizing democracy in Nepal.

Certainly, he has no authority to impose a presidential rule but it is hard to believe that he is going to institutionalize democracy, as he has worked on the counsel of leaders of the eighteen political parties directly writing a letter to the then army chief on May 3, 2009 abusing his ceremonial status on the urge of those unscrupulous and unprincipled political leaders. He would have been a morally strong president and would institutionalize democracy if he has resigned from the office for his mistake of following the urge of the leaders of the eighteen political parties otherwise Nepalis cannot trust him that he would not commit mistakes again following the counsel of some political leaders. His previous action has indicated that President Yadav has been more a puppet than a ceremonial.
