Former Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai Speaks To Reporters

March 15, 2013: speaking to the reporters at his private residence at Pulchok in Kathmandu, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said that even though non-political person is made the chairman of the Interim Election Cabinet, the political key is with the four major political parties, and the elections will be held in June. Dr Bhattarai said that he could not hold the elections even though he had set the dates of elections twice because the head of state did not approved the bill on elections, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.
Concerning his performance during his 18-month and 18-day administration, he said that he had enforced the road-related law that none of his predecessors could enforce to widen the roads in Kathmandu. He said that he took risk at signing off the BIPPA for attracting foreign investment in Nepal, as he wanted to make two-digit economic development possible. He also made about 200-page publication that states his performances the public yesterday.
Spokesman for the Election Commission Anilkumar Thakur said if the Interim Election Council makes all necessary policy decisions on the elections-related issues now, then elections are possible in June. The Interim Election Council needs to fill out the vacant positions of Election Commissioners immediately.
