Nepal-China Trade Talks In Kathmandu

April 26, 2013: Nepal-China trade talks have started in Kathmandu yesterday. Officials of both the countries have dwelt on how to reduce the trade deficit with China. At the join secretary level talks, Nepal drew the attention of the Chinese officials to the problems of the Nepalese businesspeople in the border area, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.
Nepalese officials requested the Chinese officials to provide the Nepalese exporters with the facility of transporting goods on trucks ending the need for carrying the goods on human porters to Khasa of Tibet after the Tatopani custom checks.
At the talks held at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, the 11-member Chinese team led by Director General of the Department of Commerce of China's autonomous region of Tibet Bianba assured the Nepalese team of officers of Customs and Commerce Departments, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance, led by Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Jivraj Koirala of presenting the problems of the Nepalese exporters to the central and regional government of China.
The Chinese team also was in Nepal to invite Nepalese businessmen and government officials to the forthcoming Nepal-China economic and trade fair to be held in Shigatse: the second largest city of Tibet. The Chinese team met with Commerce Secretary Lalmani Joshi and informed him about the increment of goods to be taken to the show from previously agreed on 800,000 Yuan to 1.6 million Yuan.
