By KTM Metro Reporter
December 20, 2013: the Janak Education Materials Center (JEMC) has been awaiting a hefty loan for the purchase of textbook print paper after the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) directed the Ministry of Education not to allow the lack of textbooks in the coming academic year, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
On December 15, 2013, CIAA directed the Ministry of Education and other concerned agencies to make available the textbooks of all subjects to students at the onset of the coming academic year.
The Guardians Association Nepal had submitted a memorandum to the chief of CIAA Lokman Singh Karki demanding proper directives to the concerned agencies for distributing textbooks to students on time.
Though the Ministry of Education and its subordinate education departments on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 held a meeting of textbook management central coordination committee after the CIAA directive, the problem of textbook shortage is yet to be addressed.
The JEMC said that though it was ready to print textbooks required for coming the academic year it has no adequate financial resources to immediately purchase papers. At the meeting, JEMC Managing Director Anil Kumar Jga said that the JEMC could not print textbooks if the loan amount of Rs 550 million required for the purchase of papers were not to be provided by the end of December.
Guardians Association Nepal Chairperson Suprabhat Bhandari said that the shortage of textbooks would hit hard the future of students.
