YCL Shut Down Educational Institutions In Chitwan

Issue 31, August 4, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 31, 2013: Young Communist League (YCL) affiliated with UCPN-Maoist shut down all schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the Chitwan district yesterday to protest the arrest of its six cadres by the police. The police arrested the cadres involved in collecting donations coercively, according to the nepalnews.com.

The Police said that the YCL cadres were caught red-handed taking money from a businessman at the Putali Bazaar area in Narayangadh. Those arrested in that connection are Modraj Neupane, Uttam Gurung, Bishal Marahaththa, Manoj Sherpa, Rabi Parajuli and Bharat Magar.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from the Chitwan Districtr Police Office (DPO) arrested them while collecting donations violating the election code of conduct. The YCL cadres are currently in the custody of the police.

The YCL Chitwan District Committee held a news conference immediately after their arrest and contested the police claim that they were collecting donation, saying that they were arrested “without any reason” and with no fault of theirs, writes nepalnews.com.
