Documentary Films On Migrant Workers

December 19, 2013: speaking at the function of showing a documentary film on migrant workers, Secretary to Ministry of Labor Shanta Kumar Shrestha said that it was important to take training on the nature of the work s/he is going to take up a foreign counry; to this end, the ministry also has been holding various short-term skill-oriented training for the migrant workers, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

A documentary produced and directed by Peter Patteson, a British director, was also shown on the occasion of the International Day of the Migrants on December 18. This documentary depicts the situation of Nepali women migrant workers in Lebanon and in Qatar.

 

Another documentary 'The Dream of Reality' directed by Ashor Thapa presented the real life of Ganesh Kumar Phunyal, 38, from the Dolakha district that went to work in Malaysia. The documentary shows the heart-breaking footage of Phunyal on how his limbs amputated after he had an accident while on duty at the SK Bus Company in Malaysia a year ago. The documentary also showed the medical treatment he received in Nepal.

 

Director Thapa said that a legal action has been initiated on the accident Phunyal had while on duty at the SK Bus Company in Malaysia.
