By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Speaking at the inaugural function of the First National Conference of Judges held in Kathmandu on March 31, 2009, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Kedar Prasad Giri said that the judiciary has been unable to work in a free and fair manner and the independency of the judiciary has been under threat.

Speaking at the same function, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dev Gurung said that the feudal judicial system had been unable to deliver fair justice to the people; so, it was necessary to restructure the judiciary.

The local newspapers reported that as all judges have gathered in Kathmandu, as a result, hearings of cases have come to halt at all courts throughout the country; such halt might be a week in some courts.
