Ruling Streets For Toppling Government

Issue 33, August 12, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 7, 2012: ruler of roads in the wee hours, Youth Association Nepal (YAN) affiliated to the CPN-UML decided to permit the school buses to run even during the declared shutdown from the Wednesday morning, and reduced the rule of road to three hours to let the Nepalis enjoy movement. The undeclared war against the current government running the parallel rule on the roads, YAN cadres unleashed by the CPN-UML have been causing tremendous sufferings to the Nepalis. However, they were making troubles to the Nepalis provoking their wrath but would not get the prime ministerial chair if the recent history were any guide. Our mind is still fresh with the six-day Nepal shutdown successfully enforced by the then UCPN-Maoist for tearing down the then Madhav government without any positive result rather incurred the public wrath because they had stopped the people’s livelihood for six days illegally.

The same mistakes were being committed by the CPN-UML unleashing the bunch of mercenaries to enforce the shutdown by forces. These mercenaries broke up everything they found moving on the roads causing damages to the private properties. The prestigious political party such as CPN-UML needed to follow the rule of law to topple the government rather than following the illegal path and criminalizing the politics as a whole.

The CPN-UML wanted to take over power causing immense sufferings to the people. They needed to follow the Interim Constitution to topple the government and go to the polls seeking the people’s mandate for taking over the prime ministerial chair. However, they were shy of going to the polls fearing that people would reject them totally. So, the CPN-UML leaders declared that the election to a new CA was unconstitutional but they thought that blocking traffic was a constitutional. That was what the democratic principles they had. They need to know that the political battlefields are the election polls not the roads or streets where common folks need to move smoothly. If they had the guts to fight the political battles they needed to go to the polls.

Nepalis needed to rise against such politicians and political parties and fight to the finish so that Nepalis could enjoy the rule of law following the universally adopted democratic norms and values.
