NC And CPN-UML on One Side UCPN-Maoist And UDMF On Aother: Head-on Collision

May 2, 2012: at the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, leaders of UCPN-Maoist and UDMF on Monday, April 30 decided to give top priority to the completion of the constitution drafting process setting aside the demand of the NC and CPN-UML for a national unity government ‘The Rising Nepal’ of May 01, 2012 writes. After the meeting, Secretary to UCPN-Maoist Posta Bahadur Bogati said that the two parties agreed to form a national consensus government only after concluding the constitution writing process. Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party co-chairman Hridayesh Tripathi said that they agreed at the meeting to foil any attempt under any pretext on disturbing the constitution writing process.
Speaking to the mass rally held at the Open Theatre in Kathmandu to mark the 123rd May Day, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said, “The current struggle among the parties is for promulgating a new dynamic or traditional constitution and no one can stop the immense revolt to be staged by the people in case of failure to draft a pro-people constitution; anti-revolutionary national and international forces are massively engaging to weaken the Maoist party, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
Talking to the journalists at Biratnagar Airport yesterday, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai has said that he is confident of his party succeeding to promulgate a new constitution within the deadline. “Forming the consensus government under our party is essential to resolve the political deadlock,” ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quotes the prime minister. He said, “The Maoists are trying to form a unity government but the NC and UML are obstructing to give this government the shape of the unity government. I am trying to bring the NC and UML in the government to give it the shape of consensus government but they are not serious about it.”

Speaking at a function held by Nepal Trade Union Federation to mark the 123rd May Day, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal yesterday said that the ruling coalition parties were trying to impose dictatorship in the country; the parties were unable to build a consensus on the disputed issues of the constitution due to the ruling parties and the government, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. He also accused the government of obstructing the formation of a national unity government but without a unity government, the constitution drafting process would not complete.
