UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML Asks House Speaker For PM Election Afresh

September 24, 2010: senior leaders of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML including Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda and Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal have reached the office of the House Speaker Subash Nemwang at Singh Durbar in Kathmandu on September 23, 2010 with a written memorandum on starting the election to a new Prime Minister afresh, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 24, 2010 reports.
A meeting of the top leaders of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML held at the parliamentary party office of UCPN-Maoist at Singh Durbar on the afternoon of September 23, 2010 has reached an agreement on writing a formal letter to the House Speaker urging to end the never-ending election to a new Prime Minister. They have signed off a four-point deal to this end in continuation to the three-point agreement signed on September 17, 2010.
At the same time, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel has charged CPN-UML and Madheshi members of the Constituent Assembly (CA) on September 23, 2010 with not meeting their responsibility remaining neutral in the prime ministerial election., ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 23, 2010 reports. Mr. Poudel has explained that the major functions of CA members are to write a new constitution and cast votes whenever required for choosing a Prime Minister but they are not doing so.
On September 24, 2010, speaking to party activists and journalists at a program in Parsa in the wake of CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist reaching a four-point agreement, officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, also a senior CPN-UML leader has said that the left parties will not form a coalition to break the current deadlock at least the CPN-UML will not be a part of such a coalition according to ‘The Himalayan Times’ and ‘Myrepublica.com’ of September 24, 2010.
Meanwhile, spokesman for NC Arjun Narshing KC has said his party has serious concern over the so-called three-point agreement and four-point agreement and over asking the House Speaker for starting an election to a new Prime Minister afresh; the deals they have reached are for making a new Prime Minister rather than addressing the current political challenges to the country according to nepalnews.com.
