Nepal: Federal Democratic Republican Nation

On Friday, December 28, 2007, the Interim Legislature passed the proposal for amending the Interim Constitution with the provision for declaring Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic ending the 238-year old monarchy. The proposal was passed by the 270 votes out of the total 273 votes cast. The Speaker has certified the amendment bill on abolishing the monarchy in Nepal.
