By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The heavy rainfalls have caused unprecedented floods in western Nepal starting on September 21, 2008. The floods have killed about fifty people; a number of people are reported to be still missing. However, the rescue people have difficulties to reach the flood-affected people. A helicopter flown to this area could not find any area suitable for landing, so returned back on September 22, 2008. Currently, the army, armed police and Nepal Police have been working for rescuing the flood-hit people in western Nepal.

On September 23, 2008, the Government of Nepal allocated Rs 15.5 million for the relief of the flood victims in western Nepal, and immediately released Rs 5 million. The UN also allocated Rs 180 million for the relief of the flood victims.
