Government Increasing Electricity Price
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
According to the news appeared in the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 3, 2010, the government is increasing the price of electricity. The state-run company called Nepal Electricity Authority has been the center of corruption, and has been running in loss because of heavy leakage of revenue. Minister for Energy Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has done nothing during the last nine month in office to mitigate the power-cut. He could have set up a thermal plant to run it at the time of the need for high power consumption but he has done nothing to this end causing 12 hours a day power-cut. However, he is very smart to increase the price of electricity.
The Madhav administration has increased the price of sugar from Rs 60 to Rs 90 and then set it at Rs 80 at the time of buying sugar from the sugar mill owners for enriching the mill owners and himself at the cost of the poor Nepalis. Only the man defeated in two constituencies and not accountable to the people could do such things.
