More Than 1,000 Foreign Trekkers Stranded In Lukla
By KTM Metro Reporter
November 4, 2011: Nepal police have reported that about 1,200 foreign trekkers have been stranded at Lukla in the foothill of Mount Everest due to the non-availability of planes for their return flights. Planes could not fly in due to the bad weather and heavy snowfalls there. Weathermen say that it will be a few more days before the weather improves making the planes possible to fly into Lukla for picking up the stranded trekkers.
Stranded trekkers have been sleeping at the airport, at the dining halls of hotels and in the tents wherever they could find a place to spend a night. Most of them have missed the connecting flights to their home countries. Some of them have been already facing the shortage of cash.
