Poudel Stands In the Way Of Constitution Writing

Issue 43, October 24, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 18, 2010: speaking at the function held to the greetings of Vijaya Dashain at Ratnanagar of Chitwan today, NC Leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the constitution written while the peace process is incomplete will not be useful to the people, so, the constitution should be promulgated only after the peace process is complete.

Nobody is obstructing the peace process except for Mr. Poudel himself holding the election to a new Prime Minister hostage without pulling out his candidacy for paving the way to the amendment to the Interim Constitution of Nepal for making the election process simple.

If Mr. Poduel is a sincere politician he needs to quit the race for a new Prime Minister and build a consensus on electing a new Prime Minister and run the country smoothly, if not, he makes the charges of the Maoists of ‘the NC obstructing the writing of a new constitution’ come true. In addition, he is holding the state administration hostage not allowing to form a new government and to submit a new budget to the parliament.

The Ministry of Finance has already said today that it has not much money left to run the state administration, and development activities. The officiating government is not supposed to submit a budget as it is leaving immediately after the election of a new Prime Minister, so, Mr. Poudel is obstructing a new budget and the formation of a new government, too.

It has been more than three and a half months since Prime Minister resigned on June 30, 2010 but the parliament has not been able to elect a new Prime Minister. Mr. Poudel is running the race of a Prime Ministerial election obstructing the formation of a new government, and shamelessly saying that he has been doing so to save the democracy. What sorts of democracy he is protecting not letting to form a new government?
