Chairman Jhalanath’s Concern

Issue 33, August 16, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Tuesday, August 11, 2009, speaking at the Press Meet held in Nepalgunj by the Banke branch of Press Chautari Nepal, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that nobody could write a new constitution working against the CPN-Maoist and attempting to keep them out of writing a new constitution; so, making a united front against the UCPN-Maoist is not in the interest of Nepal.

Chairman Khanal also has said that his party is not against debating about the President’ move in the legislature-parliament; he reiterated that debating about such an issue should be done at the parliament if we believe in the supremacy of the legislature-parliament.

The UCPN-Maoist members of the legislature-parliament have been stopping the business of the parliament demanding to discuss the unconstitutional move of the President. The NC leaders and some CPN-UML leaders have been vehemently opposing the discussion on the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial President in the legislature-parliament.

Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and his colleagues have led the team of the leaders of the 22-political parties to the residence of the ceremonial President and have urged him to stop the Prime Minister from firing the Chief of Army Staff by directly writing a letter to the Chief Army Staff consequently gravely committing the violation of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.
