Election Commission Breaching Interim Constitution

October 31, 2013: The Election Commission that has been urging the political parties to honor the election codes of conduct has breached even the Interim Constitution publishing the list of the candidates for the proportional representation without meeting the requirement for the 33% women candidates.

 

Hearing on the appeal filed by a group of women including Tikadevi Bhandari at the Supreme Court of Nepal stating the Election Commission has published the list of the candidates for the proportional representation with the slightly more than 10% women candidates going against the provision made in the Interim Constitution for the 33% of women candidates, a single bench of Justice Girishchandra Lal issued an order to the Election Commission to submit the reasons for publishing the list of candidates without meeting the requirement made by the Interim Constitution by November 8, 2013, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’of today.
