Vaidhya Maoists Not For Talking To IEC

Issue 14, April 7, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 1, 2013: leaders of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya declared that they were not for talking to the committee formed by the IEC that was set up by the four major political parties unconstitutionally, nor with the high-level political committee of the four parties.

Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya Mohan Vaidya rejected the offer made by the government and the high-level political committee (HLPC) of the four major parties to have a dialogue. Chairman Vaidhya put forward the condition for talking to the government and the political parties. He said that for the CPN-Maoist to sit for talks, four major political forces should scrap the 11-point agreement they reached to install the Chief Justice-led government, the 25-point ordinance issued by the President following the four-party agreement, and hold a roundtable conference of all the parties represented in the dissolved Constituent Assembly, according to nepalnews.com of yesterday.

Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi called on agitating political parties to sit for talks with the government and participate in the upcoming CA elections. Chairman of IEC urged disgruntled political parties to sit for talks and help the government address their demands, according to nepalnews.com of March 30, 2013.

The CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya was ready to talk to the head of state President Dr Ram Baran Yadav. To this end, President Dr Yadav should take initiative and should be ready to correct the unconstitutional and undemocratic move he had taken on March 14, 2013 following the suggestions of the four major political parties.

On March 14, 2013, President Dr Yadav had appointed the Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi to the Chairman of the Interim Election Council following the recommendations made by the outgoing Prime Minster Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai had made recommendations to the president to appoint Chief Justice to the Chairman of Interim Election Council following the consensus the four parties reached on it on the night of March 13, 2013.

The Nepal Bar Association also believed that the IEC was unconstitutional, and marked the March 14 as the black day in the history of judiciary. The Bar demanded the Chief Justice to quit his office before taking the office of Chairman of IEC.
