Elections Or Not In Nepal

Issue 18, May 5, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 3, 2013: the 33 political parties including the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya have staged a sit-in protest at the office of the Election Commission (EC) today demanding all activities including the registration of political parties for the purpose of the elections are suspended, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’ today.

They have been demanding the invalidating of ‘Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance” that had been instrumental to make the Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi possible to take office of prime minister on March 14, 2013. They wanted Regmi to quit the office, and end the four-party syndicate.

However, political parties continued to register with the EC for the purpose of elections. Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal registered with the EC along with other political parties. A number of political parties registering with the EC have reached 18. Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal was one of the so-called 33 opposing political parties.

Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has said that he has been talking to the leaders of the opposing political parties to bring to take part in elections. Other ministers have been saying in public that nobody could disrupt the elections.
