Attempts On Breaking Current Political Deadlock

Issue 40, October 03, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 29, 2010: in a meeting held at the parliamentary office of UCPN-Maoist in Kathmandu today, eleven political parties including UCPN-Maoist, CPN-UML and TMDP have decided to urge the NC leaders to pull out their candidate from the election to a new Prime Minister and help in breaking the current political deadlock; in case if the NC leaders don’t listen to the plea of the eleven political parties then to appeal the House Speaker to use the provision made in the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 for amending the regulations to break the political deadlock, the Myrepublica.com, Nepalnews.com and ‘The Himalayan Times’ report.

Even though NC parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel has lost the election seven times, he continues to be the candidate in the Prime Ministerial election. However, he could not garner more than 116 votes out of the 601 votes in the eighth round of the election held on September 26, 2010. His continuation to run for the Prime Minister has led to the current political deadlock. This is the democratic exercise Mr. Poudel has enjoyed in the NC style disregarding the country suffering not only from the political uncertainty but also from the economic development.
