Another Chance Of Building A Consensus Wasted

Issue 07, February 17, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 12, 2013: leaders of the major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, UDMF, NC and CPN-UML have once again wasted the chance of building a consensus on forming a new government for holding elections to a new CA. At the meeting held at the official residence of the head of state President Dr Ram Baran Yadav yesterday evening, the leaders of the four major parties failed in hammering out a person to lead a new government.

Leaders of the UCPN-Maoist wanted the sitting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Khil Raj Regime believing he would be unbiased and would be acceptable to all actors in the politics. However, the Madheshi leaders of the UDMF have openly came out against such a person to lead a new government.

NC and CPN-UML leaders wanted the Chief Justice to quit the office before taking the office of prime minister. Most probably, the Chief Justice would not accept it. Some NC leaders said that the sitting Chief Justice should not be dragged onto politics.

Former Speaker Subash Nemwang said that making the Chief Justice a new prime minister was the most unconstitutional, as if Mr. Nemwang was the supreme authority of the constitution. Probably, he had not read the constitution and had carefully thought about the possibility of forming a new government. Everything is possible if all political leaders agree on and the president acts accordingly.
