Rural Hydropower Projects

Issue 15, April 12, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Association of District Development Committees Nepal (ADDCN) together planned to build one-megawatt to five-megawatt power plants in 45 districts with the local funding according to the news posted on ‘Thehimalayantimes.com’. Encouraged by the positive response of the Norwegian Development Program (NORAD) and Norwegian Development Fund (NORFund) to the rural hydropower plants in Nepal, FNCCI and ADDCN have jointly submitted a proposal for rural hydropower plants to the Norwegian Embassy. President of FNCCI Kush Kumar Joshi was on the entourage of Prime Minister Prachanda in the recent visit to the Nordic countries.

Nepal has technology and skills in building rural hydropower plants. Locals have built a number of rural plants to suit their need.
