Daily 20 Liters Free Petrol Distribution to Minister Alone

Issue 44, October 30, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 24, 2011: Minister for Commerce and Supplies Lekharaj Bhatta has disclosed that the state-run oil company called Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has been distributing 20 liters of petrol to a minister. It comes to Rs 60,000 per month per minister. In addition, the minister has stated that the NOC also foots the bills for maintenance of the vehicles belonging to ministries according to the news posted on ‘thehimalayantimes.com’ on October 23, 2011.

The government has been exploiting the NOC using its resources for supporting the hundreds if not thousands of vehicles of its ministries and ministers. So, NOC posts billons of rupees worth of loss every month. Consequently, consumers have been paying fantastically high price for the petrol in Nepal.

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been using the cheapest possible vehicle for his daily transport and he has been using economy class airfares for his foreign travels. We appreciate his bold steps toward saving the state money but he needs to pluck the holes of the NOC stopping the ministries from taking petrol free from the NOC and from stopping the ministries from getting their vehicles done free maintenance from the NOC.
