The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare has set up nearly 90 centers in 15 different districts across the country. After the establishment of the centers, 479 more cases of VAW were registered as compared to the last year.
The centers had recorded 1,088 cases in the fiscal year 2011; 703 cases were finalized while 385 cases have not settled yet. However, the registered cases of VAW at the centers in the fiscal year 2012 were 1,567.
The women have started to speak up against VAW after becoming aware of the need to do so due to the awareness programs launched by different organizations, the Ministry said. Of the cases recorded, most of them were the domestic violence. Chief Program Officer at the Ministry Jaylal Tiwari said that the cases of VAW would decrease if a different eye were developed to look into the women.
