People’s Revolt, Peace Process And Left Polarization

Issue 08, February 20, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 14, 2011: addressing a mass meeting held in Rolpa on February 12, 2011 to mark 16th anniversary of the People’s War, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the people’s revolt will set in if obstructions to the peace process and constitution writing prevail; the revolt will finish off all the remnants of feudalism and set up a truly people’s state power, the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.

"Our party is at the last phase of preparation for people’s revolt and we will initiate it if there are hindrances against," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes Prachanda. He has also said that his party continues to fight for the people’s sovereignty until it is achieved; his party continues to fight against the domestic and foreign reactionary forces for stopping the country from relapsing into another civil war.

At the same, Vice-chairman of UPCN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya ‘Kiran’ has said that his party will achieve the objectives of the people’s war. Speaking at the tea party held at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu to mark the 16th anniversary of the People’s War, Vice-chairman Kiran said, "We will not join the government if the ruling CPN-UML does not abide by the seven-point agreement," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

After the 7-point deal, Chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda and CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal have signed and Chairman Khanal got elected to a new prime minister, the opposition leaders have been terrified by the left polarization. However, Khanal has clearly indicated that he is not for enforcing the 7-point deal stating a number of agreements signed by the UCPN-Maoist have not been enforced so far. So, the opposition leaders particularly the NC leaders and their counterparts in the PCN-UML can sleep quietly in the coming nights.

For getting elected to a prime minister, Mr. Khanal has been happy to break the political deadlock he has created holding the election to a new prime minister hostage for eight months in the name of forming a consensus government for which he took a sharp slap on his cheek from his own cadres. His performances so far have shown that he is not less crook than his tainted predecessor.

At the same time, former shady ministers such as Madhav Nepal and KP Oli have been attempting on amending the 7-point deal, the CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist have reached on February 03, 2011 just before the election to a new prime minister.

Fourteen political parties represented in the parliament including the NC have decided to protest against the 7-point deal, the CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist have reached. They have said that first they will ask the prime minister in the parliament about the clarification of the deal he has reached with the chairman of UCPN-Maoist.
