Issue 37, September 11, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 8, 2011: hearing on the appeal filed by former general manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation Ramagya Prasad Chaturbedi six years ago after the Special Court convicted him of corruption and sentenced him to jail and a fine, the bench comprising Chief Justice Khila Raj Regmi and justice Sushila Karki of the Supreme Court of Nepal has yesterday sentenced him to a-one-and-a-half-year jail term and a fine of almost Rs 14 million.

This verdict of the Supreme Court bench is another significant victory of the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) over the corrupt ministers and state-employed personnel after the Supreme Court of Nepal sent former minister Chiranjivi Wagle of the Nepali Congress to jail for corruption.

CIAA had filed a case against Ramagya Prasad Chaturbedi at the Special Court for amassing huge wealth misusing his authority while in the office of General Manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation.

The Special Court had awarded Chaturbedi two-year-jail term and the fine of Rs 19 million.
