Machine-readable Passports Starting On December 26

December 13, 2010: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to issue machine-readable passports (MRPs) starting on December 26, 2010 nine months after the deadline for issuing such passports expired on April 01, 2010. The Ministry is opening its counter to receive applications from Nepalese citizens for MRPs on December 19, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 13, 2010 reports.
"We will start distributing the MRPs from December 26 to meet the criteria of International Civil Aviation Organization," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes the chief of the passport distribution office of the Ministry Bharat Paudel. Paudel has further said that a French company called Oberthur that has won the contract for printing MRPs in the international biddings has sent sufficient number of passports.
