January 3, 2014: thirty-five-year old Mohan Tudu of Haldibari-7, Jhapa has the honor of representing the minority community called Santhal in the Constituent Assembly (CA), according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

Tudu is the only person from this community elected to the Constituent Assembly under the proportional representation in the newly elected CA. UCPN-Maoist nominated Tudu for filling out the 54 seats it has won through the PR system.

Tudu entered into the politics 20 years ago participating in the student movement. He had been a member of the CPN Unity Centre (Masal). Currently, he is the Central President of the Santhal Liberation Front affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist.

In another case of representing the minority communities, a leader of the NC Lamjung district committee representing the minority Dura community has resented the party not providing him with a seat for representing the community in the Constituent Assembly, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

Leader Bhim Bahadur Dura held a news conference at Besi Sahar, and he said that although his name was included on the list of the nominees for the proportional representation (PR) from his party to the CA submitted to the Election Commission but removed at the last moment by the party leader from the Lamjung district. NC leader Dura has been active in the NC for the last 34 years and is a popular leader in the district.
