Government Not Serious About Stopping Impunity

Issue 27, July 03, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 27, 2011: speaking at an event held by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kathmandu on marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture yesterday, Chairman of NHRC Kedarnath Upadhyay has said that the cases of impunity have been rising because the government has not enforced the recommendations made by the NHRC for taking actions against the human rights violators, nepalnews.com writes.

Chairman Upadhyay has urged the media people to take up issues concerning the victims of rights violations, and fight for bringing the perpetrators of human rights violence to justice.

The United Nations has started marking the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture since June 26, 1998, as the UN Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into force on June 26, 1987, and the United Nations Charter was signed on June 26, 1948.
