By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The Nepal Electricity Authority is imposing sixteen-hour power outage per a week from November 18, 2009. So, Nepalis will need to live in darkness for sixteen hours without considering the unexpected and unannounced power-cut they face almost everyday. All business and manufacturing companies have to undergo the ordeal of the power shortage. This is only the beginning, the outage will increase as the dry season prolongs.

Starting on November 16, 2009, the four district administrations have started off providing citizenship certificates in both Nepali and English. This will relieved Nepalis from the need for translating the citizenship certificates for doing businesses in languages other than in the Nepalese language.

Some Nepalese leaders have begun showing concern for the extradition treaty to be signed between Nepal and India. They are against extraditing the people of third countries. Some of them are even against signing the extradition treaty with India. At the same time, Home Minister has called off his India-visit to be held soon for talking about the extradition treaty with the Indian counterpart giving the reason of the fast developing current political deadlock.

Some leaders of three major parties such as United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) have intensified talking to each other but without any results as all three sides have been standing as walls on their previous positions.

The Maoist legislators have continued to hold the legislature hostage demanding to debate the President’s unconstitutional move on directly writing a letter to the army chief. The days the Maoists obstructed the legislature have reached 41. The CPN-ML legislators had held the legislature hostage for 57 days in the past. The legislators have not passed the budget, yet. So, the government will not be able to pay salaries to the state employees soon. However, the coalition partners of the government seem to be not much concerned with it.
