Prime Minister Ready To Quit For Federalism

August 9, 2012: at the event held by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) to mark the 18th International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples in Kathmandu today, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said that he would immediately quit the office if the constitution with federalism were ensured through the Constituent Assembly appreciating the historic people's movement, the Madhes movement and the aspirations of the indigenous people, according to ‘thehimalayantimes.com’ and nepalnews.com. He also said that the national agenda of progressive state restructuring which would ensure the rights of the oppressed class, caste, region, gender and communities had been shadowed by the political leaders going for the change in the government.
On the occasion of the 18th International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the indigenous nationalities had announced the formation of a new party called Social Democratic Plurinational Party, and made public its manifesto in Kathmandu today. However, most of the prominent ethnic-origin leaders were missing at the function.
The government of Nepal had restricted the women less than 30 years of age from taking employments in the Middle East in view of the reportedly widespread abuse of young women there. Nepalese NGO called Maiti Nepal welcomed the government’s decision on preventing young women going abroad, as they had been vulnerable to the sexual and psychological abuse very common in the Middle East, according to ‘The Himalayan Times’ and nepalnews.com.
Recently promoted to Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana took the office from the outgoing Chief of Army Staff Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung today, as General Gurung was set to go on leave from tomorrow. Head of State President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav as the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army appointed Gaurav Shumsher Junga Bahadur Rana to the Acting Chief of the Army Staff, effective on August 9 following the recommendation of the Cabinet, write nepalnews.com and ‘The Himalayan Times’.
