Declaring Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam Martyr

June 16, 2012: the government has declared Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam killed by assailants on May 31, 2012 a martyr yesterday making his family to receive one million rupees as compensation for the loss of the loved one. A few days ago, the government has declared a man shot at the rally and killed was also declared a martyr.

Speaking at the function to mark its 12th anniversary National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in which Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai was a chief guest, Chairman of NHRC Kedar Nath Upadhyay suggested that the government should follow the law for declaring anybody a martyr, and should do away with the practice of declaring anybody a martyr with the political connection and paying one million rupees to the family of the declared martyr, ‘The Himalayan Times’ of June 14, 2012 reports.
