Subpoena To Governor of Central Bank

Issue 41, October 11, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On October 5, 2009, a single bench of Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha of the Supreme Court of Nepal has served a subpoena to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nepal Bijaya Nath Bhattarai and Chief of Currency Management Department Ashwini Kumar Thakur for explaining why the Central Bank has issued the faulty banknotes and Indian banknotes, and why the shortage of banknotes has been created just before the largest Hindu festival called Dashain. However, the single bench has not issued any subpoena to Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Chief Commissioner of Commission on Investigation Into Abuse of Authority (CIAA)

Advocate Hemmani Subedi has filed a case at the Supreme Court of Nepal demanding an action against Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, Acting Chief Commissioner of Commission on Investigation Into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lalit Bahadur Limbu, Central Bank Governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai and Currency Management Department Chief Ashwini Kumar Thakur for creating the shortage of banknotes just before the Dashain festival and not taking actions against the responsible staff members of the Central Bank for causing the shortage of banknotes.
