Kathmandu: Hundreds of thousands of folks have been leaving the Kathmandu Valley for their homes to celebrate the most important Hindu festival called Dashain with the loved ones and friends and relatives. They have used any available vehicles such as buses, microbuses, motorbikes, and airplanes for travel to their destinations. Up until September 26, 2017, shoppers have crowed the main shopping centers and thoroughfares to buy new clothing, shoes, and other gift items for their loved ones and for them, too.
According to the Metropolitan Police, 1.9 million folks have left Kathmandu by September 26, 2017, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated. The police stated that folks have started off leaving Kathmandu about two weeks ago. Most of them have been running various businesses, and some them are students and studying at various colleges in Kathmandu.
Even though the festival is of two weeks starting on the first day of the bright fortnight of September/October and ending on the full moon day, the real festival starts on the eighth day and reaches the peak on the tenth day and finally ends on the full moon day.
The population of Kathmandu has almost reduced to a half, and the traffic has been thin, and the crowd of side walkers has been nowhere to be seen. Traffic jam has gone for at least five days. However, the traffic police have intensified the checking of drunk driving as the festival activities have been increasing.
