YAN Called Off Kathmandu Valley Shutdown On Tuesday

Issue 50, December 11, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 6, 2011: The Youth Association Nepal (YAN) affiliated to the CPN-UML has called off its Kathmandu Valley shutdown in protest against the misappropriation of the Youth Self-Employment and Small Enterprises Fund (YSSEF) following the Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s commitment to probe into any irregularities in the fund.

Billions of rupees have been misappropriated and have been unproductive because of not properly managing the YSSEF, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

Speaking to the reporters in a press conference held to inform about the withdrawal of the shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley, Chairman of YAN Mahesh Basnet has said that after the commitment of the prime minister made on Monday to take a look into the irregularities in the YSSEF, his organization has decided to call off the shutdown.

On Sunday, YAN activists had greeted the Finance Minister with black flags at the international airport in Kathmandu in protest against the mismanagement of the YSSEF, and had thrown stones and bricks at the Finance Minister breaking some windowpanes pf the terminal building.

YAN activists had assaulted a journalist in Eastern Nepal some months ago. YAN Chairman had successfully saved the criminals from falling in the hands of the police.
