Taking Actions Against Officials And Contractors

July 1, 2011: Public Account Committee (PAC) of the legislature-parliament has instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation for taking actions against the officials and contractors involved in the irregularities in building the runway and a helipad at the international airport in Kathmandu, ‘Gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
PAC has requested the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority for investigating the financial irregularities in building the runway and a helipad at the international airport in Kathmandu. PAC has come to the conclusion that the financial irregularities are the main reasons for the collapse of the runway and helipad built only a few months ago.
A week ago, the newly built runway had collapsed causing to require for diverting the international flights from Kathmandu to Delhi, Kolkatta and Dhaka for a few hours.
The cost of building the runway has increased from Rs 230 million to Rs 290 million, and the cost of helipad is Rs 27 million but their lives have been of a few months only.
