Nepalese Vice-president Again on Limelight
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On November 05, 2008, speaking at one of the interaction with reporters, Nepalese Vice-president Parmananda Jha said that the Special Committee set up by the Government of Nepal with the representation of four major political parties such as Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist, Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist, and Madhehsi People’s Rights Forum for the integration of the People’s Liberation Army with the Nepali Army was unconstitutional.
Legal experts said that it was not constitutional for the Vice-president to make such a political statement, as the Vice-president was the second Head of State; also the Vice-president would function as the Head of State in absence of the Head of State; so, he would need to sort out any constitutional dispute that might arise in the future; such a person needed to be unbiased.
Some leaders of Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist have expressed dissatisfaction over the unconstitutional statement of the Vice-president and drew the attention of Prime Minister Prachanda to this statement.
Nepalese Vice-president Parmananda Jha was once in limelight when he took the oath of office from the President in Hindi rather than in his mother tongue or in Nepali. He represents the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum. Hindi is one of the official languages in India.
