Madhav Administration’s Activities

Issue 37, September 13, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On September 11, 2009, the Madhav administration has added two more ministers to the Council of Ministers making it the 44-member. Both of them are from the Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party. One is made Minister of State for Education and another is Assistant Minister for Youths and Sports.

The Madhav administration has also set up a committee on looking into the unnatural price-rise of the foodstuff and then report to the administration. The Madhav administration has said that it has stopped exporting lintels but the prices of lintels have not fall down; it has raided the foodstuff storerooms of the businesspersons to stop the hoarding of foodstuff but the prices of foodstuff have been rising. Some market analysts have said that the high prices of foodstuff are due to the unholy alliance the Madhav administration has with the businesspersons.

The media report has it that some businesspersons have imported sugar at Rs 32 per kilogram, and they can sell it at Rs 40 with profits even paying the value-added tax but the  state-run Salt Trading Company has been selling sugar at Rs 53 per kilogram and other retailers are selling at Rs 65 per kilogram. If it is true then the Madhav administration has surely an unholy alliance with businesspersons.
