Bill On Amendment To Constitution Not Passed

KTM Metro Reporter

August 22, 2017

Kathmandu: the Bill On Amendment To Constitution put to a vote on August 21 did not get through the parliament, as the yes votes were only 347 out of the requirement for 395 votes; thirty nine lawmakers including the members of the newly formed Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic (RPP-Democratic) did not show up for voting, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

The no votes have been 206. The main opposition CPN-UML, RPP (Kamal Thapa), NWPP and other small parties voted against the bill.

It was not an unanticipated event but the hope had been some miracles might happen and the bill might get through the parliament. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba obviously could not perform any miracles.
