By KTM Metro Reporter
February 29, 2012: Four members: two representing NC and another two CPN-UML on the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) have demanded Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to call the meeting of AISC immediately to jumpstart the stalled army integration process, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
They have said that the prime minister as the chairman of the AISC needs to call the meeting of the members of the AISC to enforce the decisions made by the AISC but the prime minister has not done so, yet. According to the news report posted on ‘The Rising Nepal’, these four guys belonging to the NC and CPN-UML have even complained that they could not meet the prime minister in person and have to leave their request letter for calling a meeting at the prime minister’s office.
A few days ago, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the cantonments will be vacated and the army integration will be completed in a few weeks. Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai also has echoed the same sentiment. However, the opposition members on the AISC have a different story to tell. AISC is set up to complete the army integration as soon as possible.
At the meeting of AISC held at Singha Durbar today made the decision on evacuating the 13 cantonments within 10 days, as more than 9,000 combatants taking the voluntary retirement leave the cantonments; Armed Police Force and Nepal Army would take care of the physical infrastructure of the camps, and on expediting the army integration; however, main opposition parties such as NC and CPN-UML have been alleging the UCPN-Maoist and the government are not enforcing the decision of the AISC, ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today reports.
