Shutdown Of Schools In Nepal

March 4, 2013: Association of Private Educational Institutions Nepal (APEIN) has shutdown all private schools yesterday protesting against the burning of the school bus belonged to the Golden Gate College by the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU- R) for not allowing the students to form a union at that schools.
Managers of the private schools have been determined not to allow the students studying at their schools and colleges engage in politics, as allowing the political activities at schools means deteriorating the education. They have cited the example of the education standard at the Kathmandu University before and after the formation of students’ unions at the KU.
Vice-chairman of Higher Secondary Schools Association-Nepal Ramesh Shilwal said that the shutdown was called in protest against the ongoing donation terror and threat on private schools and against the Guidelines of the Educational Directorate. He said they were compelled to call the educational shutdown protesting against the different malpractices including the pressure on the private schools to open students unions and padlocking of schools by putting forth various undue demands, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com yesterday.
Today, All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) enforced shutdown of private schools and colleges causing millions of students to stay home. The shutdown of the educational institutions is to protest against the strike that the education mafia had enforced yesterday, president of ANNISU-R Himal Sharma said, according to THT ONLINE news of today.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Education requested all concerned not to enforce educational shutdown, and to guarantee the rights to education. Various parents associations have also condemned the shutdown of schools and colleges, according to THT ONLINE of today.
