Dragging President To Political Disputes

Issue 24, June 10, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 5, 2012: The coalition government of the UCPN-Maoist, UDMF and other small parties has blamed the opposition NC and CPN-UML for attempting to drag the constitutional president to the political disputes. Opposition leaders have recently met with the president and urged him to step in the disputed issues. Some leaders even asked the president to remove the prime minister. These are the latest activities of the so-called leaders of the democratic parties in Nepal.

The coalition government blamed the NC and CPN-UML for dissolution of the Constituent Assembly without promulgating a new constitution, and called upon them to stop street protests that was planned defying the fresh elections, and join the consensus government, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Talking to reporters after the meeting of the coalition government, Chairman of Nepal Pariwar Dal Ekraj Dhakal said that major four political parties were equally responsible for the dissolution of the CA. The fringe parties, however, opposed the proposal to join a mass meeting in the capital. Therefore, the 19 parties supporting the government allies decided to hold discussion with the civil society leaders on Tuesday concerning the dissolution of the CA and the need for the fresh election, Dhakal said according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.

The NC and CPN-UML called on their allies to make the protest rally to be held against the dissolution of the CA and declaration of the fresh elections on June 8, 2012 a great success, and to force the prime minister out of the office. These guys could not force the prime minister constitutionally; now, they have adopted the unconstitutional means to oust the prime minister, possibly causing political chaos.

The opposition parties also said that the Prime Minister had no constitutional and political rights to continue in the office and stressed that the consensus politics would be started after the resignation of the Prime Minister; they also said that the Maoists were trying to capture the state power by creating constitutional vacuum, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. These guys have already demonstrated that building a consensus on a new government has been more than impossible. So, they have been again talking about a consensus only to trick the prime minister to leave the office. This time, these opposition guys would be no more successful to do so. The fact is the Maoists have already captured the state power what left to the opposition is only to protest against anything they want.

Talking to a group of about five dozens former CA members representing the NC at his office yesterday, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav stressed the need for building a high level political consensus to break the current political deadlock. President Dr. Yadav said that the country was facing a big political and constitutional crisis and all parties should build a consensus to end the crisis, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. These NC guys told the President that 98 per cent of the constitution writing was completed; so, the president should reinstate the CA to complete the remaining two per cent task. Thus, these guys want to push the president to step out of the constitution in the name of completing a new constitution. They did the similar thing in 1995 asking the Supreme Court of Nepal to reinstate the parliament dissolved by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari causing the political chaos thereafter.

A delegation of the Nepalese business community went to meet the president yesterday and asked for the president’s role in creating an environment conducive to the profitable business, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. The business community also forgets the president is a constitutional one, and needs to follow the recommendations of the prime minister for doing anything concerning the state affairs. However, it is not surprising that the business community is politically illiterate, as the community is more for making profits than following the rule of law.
