International Community’s Concern Over Law and Order
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
Ambassadors and head of missions in Nepal have attended a program held jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home on Monday, July 20, 2009 to put forward their views concerning the law and order situation in Nepal. They have said that the law and order situation has been deteriorating almost every day, and have urged the Home Minister to save the vehicles of the diplomatic missions in Nepal from assaults.
On July 19, 2009, thirteen members of the legislature-parliament belonging to the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Gacchedar have submitted a memo to Home Minister Bhim Rawal protesting the death of Chairman of National People’s Freedom Front Ramnarayan Mahato. They have alleged that Chairman Mahato has died in the police custody whereas the police have said that Chairman Mahato died in the police actions.
In the eastern Nepal local transporters have shut down the traffic on the highway demanding the arrest of the culprit that has kidnapped a taxi driver and killed. The shutdown has affected the lives of the people in Ilam Panchathar, Morang and Sunsar districts.
Locals have shut down the traffic and business in the Saptari district calling for the actions against he Armed Police Force that has killed an innocent person in the heat of discussion over the fertilizers brought by some farmers from across the Nepal-India border.
In the central Nepal, Tamsaling have shut down the traffic on the Arniko Highway demanding the government enforce the agreement they have reached.
In the far western former army and police men who have deserted from the police and the army during the conflict have shut down the traffic on the East-West Highway demanding the government reinstate them.
So, the law and order situation has reached almost to zero. The police have killed the innocent person in Saptari and Chairman Ramnaryan Mahato recently. Nepalis have the fear of both the police and the criminals, as their lives have been at risk. So, even the international community has not been free from the fear of the assaults on their vehicles.
