Motorcycle Procession To Mark Nepal New Year

November 14, 2012: inaugurating a motorcycle procession held by the Sankata Club to mark the Nepal New Year of 1133 in Kathmandu today, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the Nepal Samvat will be made effective from the next year declaring it a national holiday, as the government has already accepted the Nepal Samvat as the national calendar, according to the state-run news agency RSS. 

National celebrity Shankhadhar Sakhwa introduced the Nepal Samvat: a calendar of the common Nepalese folks, the prime minister has said and prayed that the New Year inspires us all for introducing federalism with identity and a constitution with federalism. 

The motorcycle procession started off at the Tebahal Sankata Temple in Kathmandu, went through various parts of Kathmandu, Kirtipur and Lalitpur and came back at Tebahal today. The 22-neighborhood improvement committees and the Lions Club of Kathmandu and other various organizations participated in the motorcycle procession according to the news posted on thehimalayantimes.com. 

Speaking at another event held at Mangalbazaar in Lalitpur to mark Nepal New Year of 1133 today, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the government has been making efforts on following the path taken by the Nepalese national celebrity Shankhadhar Sakhwa absolving the poor of their debts so that the country will have no more poor people, and added that all including the opposition parties should support the budget to be brought by the government in a new way, and all should unite for economic prosperity of the country, as an economic revolution is necessary by giving the political outlet to the country at the earliest, according to the RSS. 

Coordinator of Nhudaya Organizing Committee, Lalitpur and culture expert Satyamohan Joshi, Chairman of the Jyapu Samaj Yala Mangal Maharjan, Chairman of the Manka Khala Struggle Committee Kiran Shakya among others said that Nepal Samvat should be brought into use as it is a national calendar, according to thehimalayantimes.com.
