Tibetans Are Arrested In Nepal

Issue 38, September 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 12, 2011: the Nepal Police have detained 20 Tibetan teenagers allegedly attempting to cross the border between Nepal and Tibet illegally in the remote area called Bajura in western Nepal today. The police have held 15 boys and five girls aged between 16 and 18 while on the way to visit their spiritual leader Dalai Lama currently in exile in India.

Many faithful Tibetans risk their lives to visit their spiritual leader Dalai Lama for his blessing. First they have to be safe from the Chinese border patrols and then from the Nepalese police that have been allegedly bribed by the Chinese for holding any Tibetans attempting to cross the Nepal-Tibet border.

Following the gentlemanly agreement reached with the UN agency, Nepal needs to give Tibetans safe passage to visit Dalai Lama In India but under the pressure of the Chinese government, the Nepal Police breach such agreement and arrest Tibetans and even send them back to Tibet subjecting them to the harsh punishment inflicted by the Chinese rulers in Tibet.
