Sorting Out Disputed Issues of New Constitution

April 15, 2012: as the army integration has taken a final shape, leaders of four power centers such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF have been sitting together to sort out the disputed issues of a new constitution. They have taken a shelter at the Hattiban Resort in Kathmandu since Sunday afternoon to hammer out a deal on a new constitution. They have two more days to work on the disputed areas of a new constitution following the deadline set by Business Advisory Committee of the parliament. So, they have been staying at the resort overnight to reach a deal.

Leaders have been holding intra-party discussions about their bottom-line for 'give-and-take' on the contentious issues before the negotiations start, nepalnews.com writes.

Chairman of UCPN-M Prachanda, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, leaders such as Ram Bahadur Thapa, Dev Gurung and Hitman Shakya are participating on behalf of the UCPN-Maoist at the meeting. Similarly, President of NC Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitoula, Arjun Narsingh KC and General Secretary Prakash Man Singh Shrestha are participating on behalf the Nepali Congress. Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, leader KP Oli, Surendra Pandey and Bhim Rawal on behalf of the CPN-UML are participating while Bijya Kumar Gacchedhar, Raj Kishor Yadav, Mahendra Yadav and Hridayesh Tripathi on behalf of the UDMF are participating at the meeting held at the Hattiban Resort. CPN-UML leader Pasang Sherpa representing the Indigenous Caucus of the Constituent Assembly (ICCA) has submitted an agenda related to ethnic issues to be discussed in the leaders’ meeting according to ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today.
