Issue 01, January 04, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 01, 2009, after undergoing three-day of body-cleaning rituals, newly appointed Nepalese priests found the gate at the Pashupati temple locked by the caretakers of the Pashupati store, and then Pashupati Area Development Trust broke up the locks and let the priests perform daily routine worship to Lord Pashupati.

Nepali congress Members of the Constituent Assembly protested the appointment of the Nepalese priests to the positions of the priests vacated by the South Indian priests saying the Pashupati Area Development Trust did not follow the rule of law. One of the members of the Constituent Assembly named Gagan Thapa even went to the Pashupati temple to protest the appointment of the Nepalese priests to the priests at Pashupati.

A single bench of the Supreme Court of Nepal gave the Pashupati Area Development Trust a stay-order and let the former priests to hold regular religious rituals at the Pashupati temple until the court case on this matter is settled. Some of the caretakers of the Pashupati store have filed a case against the appointment of the Nepalese priests at the Pashupati temple.
