By KTM Metro Reporter

September 14, 2013: Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has field a corruption case against 22 officials at the Special Court yesterday charging them with purchasing low quality transformers from a Thai Company paying for high quality transformers causing the loss of Rs 467.66 millions to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

NEA had purchased 1,567 transformers of different capacities in the fiscal year 2009 without bidding thus not following the fundamental law of the public purchase. NEA also accepted the transformers of less than half of the capacities and weights mentioned in the purchase documents.

Most of the high officials involved in the corruption are the same that have involved in purchasing low quality transformers from Chinese Company causing the loss of billions of rupees to the NEA.

CIAA also has filed corruption cases against the Thai company, and its Nepalese representatives for involving in supplying low quality transformers.
